Croweing

Here's to you Messrs. Robinson (Rich, left, & Chris)

I'm made up: the Black Crowes are coming to town in October and tickets go on sale next week. The feuding Robinson brothers have patched up their differences and are going to be playing $hake Your Money Maker - the band's 30 year old debut album - in its entirety. What's not to like? I've seen them a few times over the years - up and down the country - and always came away thinking 'this is what it must have been like to see Rod and The Faces in 1971.' Yes, they really were are that good.

If my friend David Swift is reading this in Melbourne, Australia, I'll be mortified if I don't see you on October 16!

Leave Your Stepping Stones Behind

Bob Dylan recorded It's All Over Now, Baby Blue in 1965. And since then it's been covered by every man and his dog. Far be it for me to tell you which versions are worth seeking out, and those that belong on the turkey farm - I'll let you make your own minds up.
That said, I am rather partial to Chris Robinson's version. I'm not too sure if the former Black Crowe ever released it officially, but this was recorded in a New York radio station a couple of years back. Check the beards out, too.

We're a man down: one of our blogging fraternity -  The Swede - is not too good at the moment. I'm sure we all wish him a speedy return to form, and hope he's back in harness before too long.

More Cunning than the Raven

Moose Allain regularly appears on my Twitter feed. His cartoons put a smile on my face most days. A must when wading knee deep in imbecilic rants from the POTUS; not to mention right wing ramblings from several of our own swivel-eyed loons.

So, crows. What's the story morning glory? And just how do you tell a crow from a raven? Well, look no further. Proof, if proof were needed, that 'Are We There Yet?' also has a charter to inform, educate, and entertain. It can also shoehorn a song from the fabulous Black Crowes into any blog post at the drop of a hat. You're welcome.

Triangulate

Carrington - home to Carrington Triangle Folk Club, would you believe?

New year, new Triangles. 2017 - that was the year that was, it's over let it be. 2018 - a new year of acoustic sessions at the Gladstone. And if you don't know Carrington, the Gladdy sits in the middle of the triangle - yes it really is a triangle (see the map above).

Last night I renewed my subs and belted out a couple of Oldies but Goldies from my, ahem, back catalogue (I love writing this stuff - you'll just have to take my word that Leeds, 1972 and Dog With a Bone went down a storm). Come along one night if you don't believe me - details on the left. That's right, it'll be my caustic wit that will get me thru this year. It never did Toby Young any harm.

                      🔺🔺🔺

Sticking with triangles, the Black Crowes borrowed a classic seventies cover from Hustler magazine for their splendid Amorica album. I saw the band quite a few times around this period - 1994/95 - and they 🔺never🔺 disappointed. I particularly remember their stoner front man Chris Robinson's mission statement he sermonised one night: "To get to it, you've gotta go through it." Ain't that the truth?
