Dive in

I love dive bars. I've spent a significant proportion of my adult life in dive bars. And it never did me any harm. (Don't @ me.) Someone else who has a penchant for all things dive is No Badger Required. Our paths have never crossed, yet I feel is if I should be inviting them to BlogCon26; where, I'd like to think, we would meet in a Leeds dive bar of their choice (of which there are many). Hmm, let me mull that one over.

In the meantime, today's musical show & tell is nicked wholesale from NBR's Dive Bar Anthems playlist - now my Dive Bar Anthems playlist. Here's the studio version. However, this is a frantic, not to mention frenetic, no holds barred live version. Enjoy.

  1. Why is a dive bar called a dive bar? (Not a Christmas cracker joke - I genuinely want to know and rather than google it I thought you might have a good answer!)

    1. Small & unglamorous drinking establishments on the wrong side of town with dated decor & sticky floors. But you'll generally find great music and someone at the bar who'll talk to you.

    2. Sorry C, I didn't answer your question. The term comes from America where these bars were generally found in basements. So 'dive below' entered the lexicon.

  3. You might want to visit Martin's blog - another couple of types of bars mentioned there!

  4. My cousin's local dive bar, the Racoon Lodge, was torn down in haste a decade ago, yet when I was in New York this time last year, the land was still a vacant lot. I spent many happy hours in the Lodge, some of which I remember. It was fortunately but a short stagger from my cousin's front door - their bourbon measures were generous and lethal, particularly if Andy was behind the bar.

    1. Maybe you need to speak to your cousin to see if Andy moved his caravan somewhere else.
