I shan't bother you with a synopsis, other than to say it's probably the best coming of age slash road novel you're ever likely to come across. Since finishing it I took a look at the movie trailer (yep, it got the motion picture treatment back in 2017) and I think I may have to watch it (I know, I know, I'm breaking one of literary's cardinal rules). But I think I may be forgiven just this once: Steve Buscemi's in it. How can I not watch it? Of course it won't be as good as the book, but, did I tell you, Steve Buscemi's in it!

ReplyDeleteThe book I'm reading just now by Ann Tyler is a bit similar in that it could be read in two sittings (but am stretching it out a bit).
Yes, it usually either the book or the film for me but not both - good luck with it.
Which Anne Tyler? I love Anne Tyler - probably my favourite female author.
DeleteI'm gonna hang fire on the film till we've met and discussed the book. I think a few of us are thinking along the same lines.
It's her latest one called French Braid. Yes one of my favourite writers too and I still have so many of her books to read - there are 24 of them!
